Duke of Edinburgh Award

DofE1

DofE2

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is an award scheme aimed at young people aged 14 to 25. At English Martyrs we offer all three levels of the award; bronze, silver and the prestigious gold award.

The award consists of four sections, all of which must be completed. Students must commit to a volunteering section, a physical section and a skill section, as well as completing an expedition. Gold award participants must also complete a fifth residential section.

Weekly sessions are held after school in order for students to learn skills in camp craft, navigation and map reading.

Students spend time planning a route for their expedition. For the bronze award, participants must walk for two days with one night of camping. For the silver award, they complete three days of walking with two nights of camping and for the gold award, they must walk for four days with three nights of camping. Students must be completely self-sufficient for the entire expedition and will be formally assessed by an accredited assessor.

We offer students in year 10 the opportunity to start their bronze award. These students can apply for a place on the award at the end of year nine.  Please click here for the application form.
Students that complete the gold level will be presented with their award at a ceremony at St James Palace in London.
