On Friday 6th October, Year 12 students visited The City of Sanctuary. Habiba Mahmood, 12 Fisher, wrote:
Our retreat was incredibly insightful, thanks to the speakers from the organisation ‘City of Sanctuary’.
We were given so much information about the lives of asylum seekers and the paths they have had to take to escape trauma. We met three people who are currently facing obstacles, and this highlighted to us the difficulties encountered on a day to day basis. They struggle immensely even though they are now living in the UK with financial problems, unstable housing/settlement and unfair stigmas from some members of society. We gained an understanding that we have a duty of care for one another; and methods of involvement were discussed between this organisation and students. We all learnt so much and are grateful for this opportunity.
