English Martyrs Sports Day- Thursday 6th July 2017

Students in Years 7-10 participated in their houses for our annual Sports Day at Saffron Lane Athletics Stadium on Thursday 6th July. The atmosphere was electric with students performing in a wide array of events and supporting their teammates with banners, flags and face paint!

As always we were extremely impressed by students exceptional hard work and dedication on the day, with four school records being broken (one of which had stood for 43 years!) and one record was equalled during the competition.

Records were broken by:

  • Joseph Agyei-Bekoe, 7 Sherwin:  Year 7 Boys 400m, 64.06 seconds. This record was previously held by T. Mc Namee since 1975, who achieved 64.20
  • Ayotunde Braithwaite, 7Fisher: Year 7 Girls Long Jump, 4.14m previously held by F. Whittering since 1992, who achieved 4.13
  • Kieron Adjovi, 10 Clitheroe: Year 10 Boys High Jump, 1.81m, previously held by  T. Madimui since 2004, who achieved 1.75
  • Fern Harrison, 10 Sherwin: Year 10 Girls 800m, 2.48 minutes previously held by Victoria Malone since last year who achieved 3.61 minutes
  • Sophie Thorpe, 9 Ward: Year 9 Girls 1500, Sophie equalled Fern Harrison's Y9 1500m record of 5.37 minutes achieved last year.

The overall house winner was Sherwin.

Well done and congratulations to all who participated.
