Mr Simeone spent half-term in Italy making five new programmes for the BBC Radio 4 series "Tales from the Stave", discussing the original manuscripts of famous pieces of music.
The first two of these half-hour programmes are broadcast during December. Puccini's "Madam Butterfly" is the subject of the first one on Tuesday 6th December at 11:30 a.m. – the day before a new production of this opera opens at the famous opera house La Scala in Milan. The second programme is about Vivaldi's "Gloria", on Tuesday 13th December at 11:30 a.m. Both programmes will be available on the BBC iPlayer and are repeated later in the month. The other three programmes, featuring Verdi's "La Traviata", Puccini's "Turandot" and Respighi's "Pines of Rome", will be broadcast in the New Year. The photograph shows Mr Simeone in Prague airport, when recording for a previous series. The music on the wall behind him shows the opening of Smetana's famous tone poem Vltava.
