On Thursday 6th October a group of boys from years 7-11 attended the first Schools’ Rugby Festival at Belgrave Rugby Club. Year 7 and 8 made a combined team as did the Year 9 and 10.
Craig Robinson, Liam Wheatley, George Lippitt and Tevin Kafue from year 11 also attended the festival and demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities whilst coaching both teams.
Year 7 and 8 boys played six matches in total, drawing their first against Fullhurst and then winning their other 5 games convincingly. Almost every player on the team managed to score a try, with Tomas Waldron and Callum Toon joint top try scorers, both with 6. Overall the team played with great confidence and demonstrated teamwork and spirit throughout all of the event.
The Year 9 and 10 team played four matches in total, winning 2, drew 1 and lost 1. The team consisted of a range of rugby abilities and experience, however all worked unbelievably well as a unit and demonstrated great courage on the pitch. Players who were highlighted as making a great contribution to the team’s success were Callum Laight, Daniel Abela and Kieron Adjovi.
