On Tuesday 22nd March, a small group of nine students attended the British Gas Academy in Leicester for a event to celebrate 60 years of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The event was attended by HRH the Earl of Wessex.
We were one of two schools asked to attend and were placed face to face with Rushey Mead for a series of skills challenges. Our students worked incredibly well together and won the contest. Prince Edward presented Tevin Kafue with our certificate.
Our students were a little nervous to say the least meeting HRH the Earl of Wessex. You would never have known, however, as they held their own brilliantly when meeting and talking with the Prince. We were complimented by several VIPs and dignitaries on how our students conducted themselves.
East Midlands Today reported on the event. The clip can be viewed here via BBC iPlayer. The news report is about 14 minutes in to the programme.
