On Sunday 13th March, 19 dancers represented the school performing in the 'New Creations 79' show at The Curve, Leicester. This was part of a new intiative to bring schools together to share and showcase their talents and skills in dance.
New Creations 79 is a performance production company which has been created by Studio 79, to provide dancers with valuable and professional performance opportunities. New Creations 79 believes that performing is an priceless experience to dancers, it not only develops their interpretative skills but builds confidence and self esteem.' (Studio 79)
Performers were aged from between 11 – 16 and each school performed two pieces each. There was a variety of dance styles and performance themes which created a fantastic and varied show.
Representing the school was:
Year 9 - 'Definition Crew' (Arvin Odell, Luke McLean, Yovan Rana, Phillip Shigella and Alex Kome) performed their fantastically creative Street dance choreography.
Year 10 - Shantea Afflick, Amelya Tonge, Megan Gallagher, Tanya Kanyatta, Helen McHatta, Cristo Uthup, Issey-Mia Quinn, Olivia Waldron, Ellen Onyia, Misturah Kareem, Daniella Desewu, Kudzanayi Machiwenyika, Leah Hodge and Holly Howard, performed a fun and energetic Jazz piece.
The show was a fantastic event and the students performed exceptionally well with confidence and ease. I was particularly proud of their mature and professional approach on and off the stage which was commented upon by the organiser who spoke very highly of our students being so supportive of others.
Well done everyone, you did English Martyrs proud!
