Ash Wednesday services, held in the auditorium, were a solemn commemoration of the start of Lent.
The Liturgy was led by Mr Carney and students from the Guild of Lectors and the Schola Cantorum, together with the Sixth Form senior leadership team. The sixth formers placed the ashes on everyone’s forehead and all members of the community received a prayer card which contains a line of scripture for contemplation during Lent.
In this Year of Mercy we are focussing on the Corporal Works of Mercy and thus our Lent theme “Make a splash” is highly appropriate. Through our work for CAFOD we will help to ‘give drink to the thirsty’. During the Lent services we reflected on the work of Francesco Tuccio of the island of Lampedeusa who makes crosses for migrants. He uses his talents in his home to do what he can for others.
