On Sunday 29th November a small group of us from the Schola Cantorum represented the school at Youth Scratch Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall, London. The concert was a gathering of more than 40 youth choirs from all over England. After a two hour rehearsal this massed choir of nearly 1000 performers gave a stunning performance of Handel's Oratorio 'The Messiah' which includes the famous 'Hallelujah Chorus'. The concert took place in the Royal Albert Hall, best known for the Prom concerts that take place there each summer culminating in the 'Last Night of the Proms' of Land of Hope and Glory fame.
Many parents also travelled with us and after some Christmas shopping - whilst we rehearsed - they were able to attend the afternoon concert, which was sold out. All proceeds of the event will go to the charity Water Aid which works to transform people's lives with safe water and toilets. As we heard at the concert, currently one out of ten people in the world do not have access to safe drinking water and one of out three access to a toilet.
