Welcome to English Martyrs Catholic Careers Page

Our aim is that every pupil, parent or carer has access to good quality careers information, future study options and labour market opportunities. Students will have access to a careers advisor trained to an appropriate level available whenever significant study or career choices are being made.

Below you will find the schools 2018-19 careers plan and links to resources and other important information and guidance.

Post 16 Education

In Year 11 all students will need to think about what they want to do after their GCSEs. They must consider if they want to continue in full time education (A Levels or college courses), apply for an apprenticeship or look for work and training. Starting at the end of year 10 students will be given support to help them make informed decisions.

UCAS Progress

All of our year 11 students will be given a username and password for a website called UCAS Progress.

UCAS Progress allows students to search and apply for college courses, all in one place. The website is used by most schools and colleges in the county and beyond.

Students can use the website at school or at home and can search for college courses that interest them, using their most likely GCSE grades to help them choose the right course. When logged in, students can add courses to their favourites, add their personal details and complete a personal statement. Once all sections of the form have been completed, students can then submit their application.

All students will be taken through the UCAS Progress process step by step to ensure that their application is as smooth and trouble free as possible. Students will also have access to the school careers advisor for impartial advice and guidance during this time.

“Start”

In addition to UCAS Progress all students will be encouraged to use a CIAG programme called “Start”. This is a careers resource that English Martyrs Catholic School, which allows students to find out about careers based on their interests and skills.

All students will be given access to “Start” with a personal username and password.
